Castello di Pedres

The Castello di Pedres dates back to medieval times and was probably erected to defend Olbia and the borders of the giudicato. Its position dominates the entire surrounding area and the Golfo di Olbia.

Built around 1200 with local stones, it was also used by the Pisans in response to an attack by the Aragonese. Originally, the castle had stairs built with large granite boulders, four towers with polygonal walls, an upper and a lower square.

Today, the castle is reduced to a few buildings, it was destroyed by bombing in World War II, however, two rooms, a rainwater collection cistern and the donjon are still visible. The Castello di Pedres and the Basilica of San Simpliciorepresent the judicial period of Olbia
